Good wealth creators – Ian Hislop TV programme

ian’s programme tonight talked about the concept of the wealthy giving 10% of their post tax income to chairty – and if they dont set a policy to tax them the difference ?

  1. It is a noble concept to find ways to drive more money towards charitable causes. The tax deduction for charitable donations already exists as an encouragement. Some people would donate anyway, without the tax incentive.
    However, to legislate on a required donation or be taxed, surely is effectively another tax levy…a bit Robin Hood in disguise.
    …it may work though! Strange things can happen when people who are not naturally socially compassionate are driven/encouraged to do good.
